Mandip’s Blog – Project Reflection and Personal Critique

Introduction

From the beginning of a journey till the end comes many significant moments, defining moments as well as humiliating ones. These are all moments you learn from. You should use moments like these to look back on your progress, your mistakes, your stumbles, hurdles, strengths and weaknesses. Looking back is crucial to learning and improving in personal life journeys. In this blog post I will be looking back onto one of my own projects.

The Project

The project I will be reflecting on is the “My Favorite Animal website” project. It was one of the first project that we started in our Web Development and Design class with Mr. Choate. Our biggest resource was the internet. This project at the time seemed so complicated to me. I was having a lot of trouble. I also just could not watch tutorial after tutorial and listen to someone just talk for long periods of time. So at the time I was stressed and worried. I was trying to make a good impression on my teacher as well as do good for my grade. I had no past experience with coding and that made this project so much harder. This whole project was supposed to be in HTML and CSS and we were supposed to do the best we could. This was a very tough first project that I had gotten. With no past experience in coding HTML or CSS I thought I was done for. This new environment and learning skills also contributed to the difficulty of this project.

Looking Back

Now, I look back, realizing that I needed to chill and relax a little. I was new to this skill and I needed patience to learn. I remember that during this project I was asking so many different people in my class for help and only with their help I was able to accomplish the task. I am grateful for that. When I looked back at the website design I realized i had much to learn when I was coding for it. The design was horrendous, but at the same time I am still proud of myself. I can see what I was going for but now I do not think it was the right approach.

Learning Experience

That project became a learning experience for me. Now I would have done that project much differently. I would definitely change the color pallet, the structure, and overall design. I probably would use flexbox instead to create a more organized look. I would have incorporated a table instead of so many lists. I also think image and video placement could have been better. I did like what I was doing with the navigation bar and it how it was practical. I could have done so much more if I had the knowledge I have right now. I also look back and am proud of myself for what I have accomplished and for the skills I have learned. I have come so far from where I began on my path in this career. I have my teacher, my friends, my peers, and myself to thank for this.

Conclusion

The “My Favorite Animal website” project was definitely a big learning moment and looking back on it and reflecting has made me realize how far I have come. It also tells me how much more I still have to go. There are still many concepts I have yet to learn and imply onto future projects. I know I could not have gotten this far without everybody who has helped me, if listed, the list would be incredibly long, that’s for sure. Project reflection and personal critique is a good skill to take advantage of because it helps you to realize your strengths and weaknesses to better improve yourself.
